thats why im so glad i grew up around black people and in a society informed by black peoples norms and not around versions brother
this is actually important cause like sometimes its like certain shit people do in their little bubbles that they accept you take them out of that and into a space where people will actually confront them on that shit and you see them think about every decision they made in the last 10 years that led to that point.

you get people thinking the way to let their freak flag fly is to go and get a bowl cut

i think the theme was people over-identifying with a particular country or region of the world

Thinking about this thread a lot because I am in Mexico and certain neighborhoods are overrun with American tourists and it makes me wanna kms

It's not even that they're particularly obnoxious but I hate them anyway and hate myself

I hate being in Bushwick because I'm surrounded by fuckers who are like me but a shittier more cliched version they all go to coffeeshops and drink cold brew and "write" their great American novel and wear clothes from L Train Vintage

It's like I'm the victim and I'm also the oppressor simultaneously ruining my own life ruining my own built environment

And if I go somewhere with less American tourists then I'm just the first wave of the same dynamic and are my only options here being a wage chuck my whole life so I can travel and live in expensive places where I don't price anyone out? This is the riddle

on being around other tourists: i hear you. it's a strange feeling, especially in places where you can immediately identify who's a tourist and who's not from the colour of their skin. for me it feels bad being part of that tourist flow, on some level. at the same time, its not disaster, these aren't intense feeling, more mild discomforts. it's generally very easy to get out of it as well in most places, depending on where you are. you just have to go to another bit of the city. tourists cluster in small areas a lot, generally the places where there are things to see. i don't think i've been anywhere where it's impossible to escape all that if you want to, except like small tourist towns, towns by the beach, that kind of thing.
