But I agree you're picking up on a thread I've ignored which is the narratives these things are embedded in, The Discourse

And how they operate as interventions into ongoing conversations, that we, supposedly, care about.

But you would like, ideally, to have some sense of what is happening to you, how the object of perception is interacting with you
I do think this is a worthwhile effort, i.e. not misguided, but in a way that doesn't expect to single out some fundamental state of oneself/one's opinion that is prior to external influence. That is, all we are is an aggregate of external influences, and learned expressions of responses to these influences.

And I do think, for these purposes, it is possible to single out enough how a given thing is influencing you. If you couldn't do that at all, you wouldn't be able to navigate the world, I'd say.

Its almost like, upon initial inspection of a thing, you see it as its own source of influence upon you - you see a monad shining upon you. And upon closer inspect, you indirectly see the various influences upon that thing - the monads "within" that monad. And you can continue this sort of fractal semiotic differance indefinitely, it would seem.

Yeah, a missed connection, a failure to communicate, in a sense.
This gets at the approach I've been taking lately re: aesthetic appreciation. If a given work doesn't resonate with me (be it a Marvel film or a Bergman film), I just try to shift my perspective until I can tap into that resonance.

This is what I found weed taught me as a child, how to tune the dial until I receive a signal.

Or maybe not how to, but certainly that it could be done. Not that I can do it on command necessarily. Though that would be great.
