like when you write something for a blog read it over and think does this sound like i am trying to suck up to the teacher. beacuse 99% of music blogs try to suck up to the teacher. that dosnt mean being dumb it means being smart but in a different way. thats just my feling
This is what I used to really like about Woebot's blog. Even thouigh half the time he'd be talking about some obscurity that I'd probably never hear, he'd never talk down to you about it, he'd just get straight down to the nitty gritty about what it meant to him and because it was in his own genuine voice it still kept you reading. plus it helps alot if you're naturally funny and talented obviously. Good writers can also go off on mad tangents and make outrageous comparisons and still hold your attention (see also Lester bangs), although I suppose you can't really do that nowadays if you're writing for a magazine. That was the reason blogs were so good, they had that freedom.
And like luka sez, if you don't have that sort of natural charm in your writing, you have to be a professional to get away with it, to justify your existence. There's nothing worse than poor journalism, or someone who thinks they're funny when they're not.
I only ever saw little snatches of heronbone quoted in other peoples blogs, but it looked great and unique.
Ah! Remember that massive hip hop epic that Woebot did once? I really miss blogs like that!
Also, wht are the best hip hop blogs other that CB? Can we have a definitive list please? Thanks
