thanks to mistersloane for the 'Hybrid' vocal. I need to find a working link for 'The Hybrid: Cutting Room Floor'.

Spitta's doing an album with Alchemist. First track to leak off it HERE.

Speaking of Alchemist, here's that new tune he did with Mobb Deep (including newly freed P) and Nas. I haven't even listened to it yet, that's how dissensus exclusive it is.

on the ALC tip, here are 2 of my fave beats off the Gutter Water album. Which was out late last year

the raps are average but the beats bang. Plus sometimes you just want that head knock stuff

the first half of that gangrene album was good. but the second half went really wrong with the beats i thought. i like alchemists funeral beats but mobb deep (prodigy esp) just sound washed out on that new song. they sound like theyre half asleep. nas is better than both of them.

new pharoahe monch album is quite good. quite rough sounding, makes me think its like a mix cd, beats are pretty functional but decent, but hey, its pharoahe monch so who cares. he makes even crap beats sound good.

Nice flow over the Million Dollar Mans 8 bit head knocker

BareBones

wheezy
so as well as that clams casino instros mixtape that just came out he's also giving away tons of beats on his twitter if anyone likes that sort of thing

I haven't really kept track of Timbaland's movements recently. This one caught my ear though. Good to hear Missy back:

Take Your Clothes Off

Warped (not so keen on this one)

Interesting that on that 'Warped' track the bass-line really reminds me of Lex Luger/Southside on the Track - the way it jumps up for one note every four(?) bars. Would be quite interested to see Timbaland try his hand at that 'Trap' style, given the opportunity it would give him to work the stuttering hi-hats like a master.

Looking forward to listening to Covert Coup, also quite intrigued to hear the new Prodigy EP produced by Alchemist, despite reading some lukewarm reviews of it.

Oh, and thanks to CrowleyHead for pointing me in the direction of the new Main Attrakionz mixtape:

I really like the production on those E-40 bits Sick Boy posted but I'm still not really that sold on him as a rapper. Probably need to listen to more of his stuff for it to click with me.

Clams Casino is such a good producer. I'd never heard of him until the other week, he got good reviews in Fact and The Wire

if you were a devotee of this thread you would hav known about him earlier cos corpsey is a big supporter. im not a big fan of main attrack but i like the lil b things.... the new instrumental on the blogs is nice enough although i nevere understood the appeal of listening to a hiphop instrumental. thats th sort of thing gilles does. plays the instrumental.

Clams Casino instrumentals are more interesting to listen to than, say, a Premier beat cos they've got a bit more going on (of course I'm not suggesting he is on Premier's level). But I agree really, I'd much rather listen to the vocal versions of Clams beats (same goes for Squadda B, Nem 270 et al. despite their beats being probably the most immediately striking thing about Main Attrakionz's music). Also by themselves the instrumentals can feel a bit too ambient/soft-edged to me, I feel like Lil B's voice is almost an incursion of (admittedly weird) reality into the unreal 'cloud'-y instrumentals ppl like Clams make (and the same goes for M.Attrakionz, as I said in that review I done did).

Luka - what are your favourite Boosie tunes? I've dabbled. That's the case with pretty much every rapper I have heard, unfortunately.

'Covert Coup' is sounding very good. Alchemist does that Curren$y signature-sound vintage-rock/soul beat so well.

This is off E-40's Graveyard Shift. I really like this one. It's a story about a wrong 'un E-40 knows, but the way it's told combined with the spooky sounding production makes it sound like a campfire ghost story. E-40's eccentricities put a genuinely funny spin on what is otherwise pretty dark content as well, something which immediately makes me recall Slick Rick. You can almost picture a flashlight being held under his face for dramatic effect as he raps this one. This is excellent stuff, although overall Overtime Shift is a better album, and if you're only going to get one, I'd recommend that one.
