i'm getting a bit tired of this "reading is boring, never read, i never read" it's funny once or twice but you seem to have confused it with an actual stance
@luka. agitprop probably is well boring but there are agitators who would eat it up without the £1000. no one here dislikes reading on principle. even stan was into listening to lectures which is a passive form of reading. but well done it's funny to pretend that we are all illiterate sons of the local pub.
Yeah I agree with this. I'm actually still upset from the time that you had never read Nabakov and that you didn't need to cos - and I realise this is a crude and shallow summary of your position, but in the circumstances you can hardly complain about that - you knew what it was like. Yeah, maybe you don't NEED to read him, and your rules for what needs to be read are different from mine, but you can read him and you would enjoy it and make you smile and make your day better and maybe you'll talk about it to someone else or just give them a smile cos you're thinking about the cunningly intertwined realities of Pale Fire and basically the world will be better. And it's not because of your peculiar stance which seems designed to take things away from you for nothing in return.
I saw an interview once with Posh Spice and she said that she had literally never read a book, she said that she just didn't have time. Which is a bizarre excuse from a multi-millionaire who has countless servants to do everything from her and who is always jetting round the world, something which makes a perfect fit with reading. But when I saw that piece I felt truly sad for her cos I think she was telling the truth and it's like there is whole dimension that she doesn't fucking know about and she's missing out on so much... it's like she is walking around with her eyes closed every day and people say "Why don't you try opening them?" and she's "No, I don't think that would be something I would like".
Obviously I'm not gonna compare you to her, you fully know that the dimension is there and you go in it and wander around and then you find a part of that dimension and rope it off to yourself and then you make an interesting point about why you roped that part off and how you did it and so on and it is interesting... but is it better than just going there and having a look at that bit?
It's like... you wouldn't just look at food and arbitrarily just decide that large parts of it, some good bits, some bad etc are banned for you suddenly would you? Oh hang on a minute...
