I don't think - at least from people I know who have lived there, plus I used to go out with a girl from there come to think of it - that Japan is a sexually repressed country. Or at least that's not the whole story.

It's societal repression, not sexual that has that effect. Its the same here in G. Some actually say Japan and Germany are very similar culturally

Could well be - I watched a documentary about a German superbrothel and the guy who ran it said it's necessary cos in London you can walk into any pub and get a blowjob from any of the women in there (not my experience) but in Germany it's not like that, if you want casual sex you gotta pay for it.
Japan and Germany are number one and two countries for record shops and record buying I understand so there is one link.

Course man, the more you bottle things up - aka play along with the state's game - the more intense things get. Both are major players in the worlds of car manufacture, engineering, science and all kinds of other stuff you need to be exceptionally brainy for. Also very hard workers. And both also quite conservative as a whole.

Much more to it than that of course.

Having been here a while now I see the whole work comes first thing as quite oppressive. Especially in comparison with countries down the south end of the EU where the social life is much more prioritised so people have less steam to blow off.
