There's something pure about it. It's a fairly accurate representation of the tastes of a particular demographic. They haven't been bullied into pretending they like music by women or ethnic minorities. There's some hipness creeping in, Can for instance and the Beatles coming in at third is a bit of contrarianism by their standards.

Dissensus is gradually becoming mojo-like except for a different time period.

Rating Stand! over There’s a Riot Going On is almost contrarian.
There's other interesting quirks. The stooges being so high up makes me think this must have come out directly after trainspotting hit the cinemas

In a silent way is an unexpected inclusion and demonstrates how the electric miles period was being reappraised

Who voted for Prefab Sprout? I mean, I like them, but still...

It is amazing they've only got one black artist in the top 10.
I was outraged at the time but now I think it's brilliant. They don't care about black music and there's no reason why they should. They're wrong but they're being true to themselves

These are interesting partly because they represent a range of generation smushed together
Eg the influence the punk generation are starting to assert, clash and pistols but also stooges, ramones, television etc

I suppose Mojo must have had a lot of good writing in it over the years. I say that having read a book of Ian Macdonald's articles, some of which (most of which?) appeared in Mojo.

I don't remember reading anything remotely 'good.' Nothing incompetent mind you.
