Hmm yeah I have heard about how cutting edge neural networks just need ungodly amounts of computational power, but I couldn't begin to understand why, until now.

@catalog @william_kent is this something that, with greater programming literacy, one could run on their own GPUs? Really I have no idea how simple or complicated that would be.

In theory, yes. If you learn CUDA programming ( after having learnt either C for speed of execution or Python for ease of use ) then you can farm out the calculations to multiple GPUs ( which have to be nVidia ).

I wouldn't recommend running locally unless you have a lot of money - even second hand GPUs can be expensive as the crypto bros have pushed up the price

I once tried to train a GAN on a specific image set for a paper a friend was presenting at a conference and I had to give up training it on my local machine with 1 GPU as it completely locked up - it's easier using other people's hardware for me at the moment

@148 I.Q. Magical Thinker have you listed any NFTs? Or are you just collecting them as of now?
listed to sell?
Sure, this is my less active wallet https://opensea.io/HMGovt
I bought the robot for 1.3 on Saturday, probably worth 3 something now. I won't sell until it's well above 10.

I like the Physarum, going to hang on to that, though it is listed at 1.23. Hope nobody snipes it before I delist.
I'm on the whitelist for an interesting free mint next week, will keep you posted.

I really wish I'd been into this in April and heard of Cyberkongz. They're going to 100+ ETH now, but they also yield about $480 (at current price) per day, every day, for the next 10 years.

Good thread here, by the way

So when you list to sell, do you just wait to pounce when the gas fees are low? Can this timing be automated, like limit orders? I'd rather not spend over $100 of ETH to list it.

Yeah that will work, thanks.

I was watching the metamask pending transaction, and the gas fee was varying between $85 - $165 of ETH over the course of maybe three minutes, with the gas fee refreshing every ten seconds or so.
One of the horrors of it all. You find yourself spending insane amounts just to avoid FOMO.

You can adjust the settings if you're brave, loads of YT tutorials on that. I've had some success doing that, but sometimes you lose out.

PS there is an (expensive) way to get valuable prior warning of hot new mints and drops, etc. I haven't done it yet, but I am considering it when I'm liquid: buy a baby cyberkongz (7.5E floor today), join their discord, get validated and enter their closed Wall Street Kongz channel. Millions have been made with alpha found in there, allegedly.

Yeah I think I'll stick with that alert bot for the time being. I've heard of low-priority transactions getting stuck in some kind of mempool limbo, but I don't know how common that is.
