I am pretty cautious in that I think any move that gives Russia the excuse to directly engage NATO will work in Russia's favour and in terms of escalation I would imagine it would be very hard to control, and they may already have made that calculation and be willing to take the risk if all of these strange plane movements in and out of Moscow are to be treated as anything other than bluff and deception. Having just written a long essay about nuclear war I am against risking it.

But then, I also think that it would be dangerous to pressure Ukraine to accept Russia's territorial demands, as that could potentially save Putin and any outcome that keeps his regime in place would guarantee that another much worse war would be scheduled for a later date.
