Tattoos- Help Needed

ok so i want to get a tattoo this summer and have never got one before.

so...
where should i go, in London?
obviously i want somewhere reasonably cheap, clean, reliable etc. but as a complete novice i'd also like somewhere friendly and non-intimidating (i.e i don't want to go to the equivalent of those hipster record shops where they look at you askance if you've not heard of Redshape...)

i want a very simple design- basically just 3 10pence piece sized circles (not filled in) on the top of my forearm; how long to reckon that'll take? Also, please warn me if somehow i've picked an insanely painful place to get a tattoo done...

basically, i just want some info on how it all works: as i say, i'm completely ignorant...

should take 20 minutes tops.

it won't hurt- cartainly in the realm of pain/pleasure. real pain comes when being tattooed on bone rather than muscle.

don't know any tattooists in london, but what you want is simple, so unless backstreet blaggers, unlikely to go tits up.

No tattoos are the new tattoos.

I think it's funny when people have fad designs, like girls with lower back tattoos or the whole crappy "tribal" craze of the late 90s. I'm glad I've never gotten any.

ha ha, no it's the logo of a festival that i used to organise, since i was 16 (i'm now 25): it's ended this year, so i thought i'd get a tattoo to commemorate the passing of that, uh, 'chapter'.

you really are a fashion fascist aren't you swears? you dislike tattoos, good looking women (who know they are good looking), suit jackets with jeans, suits which aren't skinny etc etc ad infinitum. theres probably many more pronouncements i've missed when i haven't bothered keeping up here.

is there anything you actually do like? and do you ever judge people on the basis of who they are rather than what they look like?

matt is otm. certain areas are more painful than others - tattoos on the pecs are a bit more painful than your arms - certainly the forearms will be a walk in the park. i found the sensation quite pleasurable personally. the last one i got took about forty minutes but it was quite large. probably the most unpleasant thing is the day after when it feels as if someones given you a dead arm. then the skin starts to flake, you just apply loads of e45 and 3-4 weeks later it should be looking good.

St John Street

'tatoo you' on St John St EC1 is well-established

though they do exhibit a disdain for un-painted people.

Gotta start somewhere though!

I don't have anything against somebody getting a tattoo because they want something personal and meaningful to them, it's just all the idiots who go out and get whatever's trendy at a certain time, without realizing it's gonna last them the rest of their lives.

Suit jacket and jeans should be a hangable offence, obviously.

Attractive women are probably grateful I'm not interested in talking to them.

I like skinny suits, that doesn't mean I think all other suits look bad.

I think you've just taken a few of my posts too seriously.

I would say I was a pretty tolerant guy, I let friends away with heinous crimes like wearing wraparound shades or listening to U2.

lol listening to u2 being a fashion crime is something i think we can both agree on. in fact, tangentially i once knew someone with a homemade u2 tattoo, presumably done prison style with a needle and some pen ink. needless to say, it looked shit.

Are you sure you're not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin - in particular, of John Bonham?

obviously some places more painful than others (eg forearm near elbow hurts more than the more fleshy bit) but what is constant is that the outline always more painful than filling in which is a kind of quite nice feeling and you get used to it all in the end anyway

it won't hurt much in that location. well, it will a bit, but nothing like the japanese yakuza who have their armpits tattooed to show how hard they are coz it's just that painful. the only advice i'd offer is to make absolutely sure you want this. if there's any doubt, don't. i speak as a person with two tats, one which i love, another which i'd rather not have. know nothing about london tattooists, but for something that small you won't need dennis cockell or anyone anyway. just go somewhere clean and that's been recommended to you by someone you trust.

I know somebody who got the aphex twin logo as a tattoo and thinks he's shit now, lol.
He also got some chinese symbols, the fad tattoo of 2000. 18 year olds, eh?
