there's always the voice in your head that tells you that you're not fooling anybody with this act, that despite your best efforts to run and hide, you're still middle class and always will be

the act is basically picking a low income job and wearing clothes and music and exhibiting values that signify a working class identity, when you've been born into opportunities and privileges that make money more easy available to you. the act is acting like you don't want the money maybe

but yes, Denmark is the middle class of the world. well, it's really the high upper middle class when you put it like that

Working class people will also play their role to an imagined middle class audience too. That’s at play in BBCC and It’s constructed within you as contexts change, environments, audiences

there's something that feels dangerous about this kind of thinking to me.

well there's something absurd about it that perverts a fundamental rule and mocks some basic sense of coherent cultural meaning

can't quite put my finger on it

all this stuff is, gratifyingly, a lot less clearcut in London than in a monoculture like Belfast. Mass immigration scrambles everything.

The only honorable course is to exagerate all your defining attributes thereby transcending them.

this is one view... wear privileges on sleeve, which can also mean openly renouncing them. or (assuming your goal is to abolish the class system) use them for teh greater good, eg someone like tony benn

there's lots of in-between spaces in London, lots of ambiguity, lots of mixed allegiances that you don't get if you grow up in Belfast or somewhere like Corpsey grew up.
