Its that their "nature", their psycho-genetic predisposition and their intrinsic optimal development, is bent by the gravity of the orthodoxy, which pathologizes deviance beyond certain parameters. The whole thing is a rather rotten mass casualty of psychic potential. Again, I don't think the orthodoxy is steered, per se, but rather sufficiently impacted by those with the resources to make a dent

That is, what they would have amounted to if they experienced no pathologizing negative feedback whatsoever, hypothetically. If they happened to be predisposed toward a trajectory that more or less coincides with the bullseye established by the orthodoxy, with inner circles of excellence and whatnot.

I had a job in a coffee shop working with a few engineering students and they were very level headed calm gentle sane but it would be a stretch to describe them as human.
