GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

Brilliant like a turd perhaps.

discarda is good, i like him, i like the fact that he exists.

in other good news, Rage's mixtape is sick! just got round to listening to it properly and its really solid - like the slew dem non stop working - slew dem need to be putting out more stuff, what they do - they do very well.

An interview with Durrty Goodz. He has a very bizarre attitude towards what sort of music he makes.

Interviewer: "[Axiom EP] is 100% grime as some would call it. Was that a specific sort of decision? Was that on purpose?"
Goodz: "No no no no, I would say it's not even say it's 100% grime; I'd say it's 100% hip hop still... it's 100% hip hop because I brought dubstep mans together, grime mans together, and hip hop mans together all on one CD, and the whole CD is about peace, love and unity innit. And that's what hip hop is - that's what real hip hop is anyway."

The point he makes is that he just spits on whatever beat is hot on the streets, regardless of what speed or genre it is. I can appreciate that if he is actually able to keep the quality high (unlike Dizzee), but Axiom EP couldn't be considered hip hop in any way at all - not in its content, not in its delivery, not in the music... he's got a song on it commenting on garage's history on it for fuck's sake.

I think the problem with grime is that people are too reductive ("that's not grime, that's bait hip hop"), and it scares off the more open-minded artists or ones with different influences into saying they aren't grime for that reason. Yes, Wiley is grime, but when Wiley goes over electro on Wearing My Rolex, that is grime too. Dizzee is grime, but when he makes a shitty pop and hip-hop influenced album, although it is awful, it is still grime to me. Likewise, it's not hard to say that when Goodz comes back strong with a CD full of grime and dubstep production... it's probably because he's a grime MC.

I mean, he is going on about how he chose all these underground grime and dubstep producers because he "felt like these were the guys that were bringing it... bringing the basslines and the melodies that could lift up a whole club."

"That's what real hip hop is anyway."
Bollocks. You are making real grime music, Goodz.

His referring to early Hip Hop principles as a culture NOT the sound
Afrika Bambatta "Peace, Love, Unity and having fun"

The idea of different genre's being thrown on a turntable and the MC riding whatever ,just like what he did on Semtex's show.

either cos theres not much else about or cos ive relaxed my own personal views of what i want from grime mcs, i really like fuck radio 5 now. bit late i know but chipmunk sounds really urgent on this, compared to the 'im so relaxed and assured' style of some of his songs. tempted to seek out more of these guys. anyone heard the new ghetto mix cd yet? whats the production like? lewi white and smasher have done it all apparently...

anyone go to The End last night?

We only stayed til three because apparently everyone I associate with are fassies, but Boy Better Know's set was amazing. Maximum did the Mac 10 thing of hardly ever playing one tune for more than a minute, and Skepta & Wiley went back to back for half an hour. Benga was sick too. Youngsta was boring.

Skepta, Wiley, Jammer, Friscoe and Little Dee all showed for Maximum's set but it was just Skepta and Wiley MCing which I was glad about. It was Wiley and Dizzee-esque, they were doing each others bars and stuff. Beat selection was stupid too: Maximum busted out Eskimo, Pied Piper, Bow E3, Spaceship, I think Chest Boxing and Pulse X at one point but my memory of it isn't the best. Flowdan was billed as was the Circle but we were only there from 11.30 to 3 so I dunno if they showed.

Crowd was packed for BBK and surprisingly sparse on the dancefloor for Benga and Yunx. The bar where Chef was playing was more packed.

i think the circle advertised for last night is the funk house dj, not trim's crew...

wiley and skepta sound sick! glad people were feeling it.

I'd rather listen to Discarda than a lot of the identikit skippy flow youngers that are about at the moment (in reply to the Discarda comments a page or two back)

What is up with the Rinse FM blogspot, it takes the piss, they locked off barefiles from upping rinse sets but that blogspot has the slowest download speeds I have ever encountered on the net.

BTW how dead is RWD forum these days?

I reckon you could spend a Friday night knocking pints out the hands of randomly selected fat blokes and get bars better than Discarda's shouted at you.

which percy ingles is that? is it the one near london fields?
percy is the original. greggs is some northern outfit, from newcastle or something. you can't trust them. greggs is not civilized. you can't sit down in greggs and have a cup of tea. the percy ingles in stratford used to be amzing. when you could still smoke fags with your cup of tea. i'm pretty sure they started in stratford. i once saw d.e.e coming out of the greggs in forest gate. he has a sausage roll or something. i should of told him to go percys next time. but i didn't though.

one in my pic is the percy ingles on holloway road.. a regular cotch during my college years. since going to queen mary uni tho i've become quite fond of the one on bethnal green road.. i think their sign is a bit classier.

percy ingle is quite literally a percy

dirty canvas should put audio of their nights on the web...

You're right, and yes we're planning to very soon - lots of decent audio (and film for that matter)...on that note we're looking to extend the DC team if anyone is interested? ...you'll need a phd in grime to be eligible

[Tinchy Stryder's Cloud 9 EP] is so much better than his shit "album" of last year.

I actually thought his album was really good. I'm not blind to its shortcomings but I admire that he took the idea of making a grime album head-on and produced something that didn't sound like any old grime mixtape, included a bit of variety, and carefully produced some more tastefully populist tracks.

When I think about the quality of the Cloud 9 EP, particularly in how he is still able to churn out songs that please the heads and work well on a street mixtape, it looks like to me he is succeeding at doing what Kano tried to do and failed from both sides. It makes me really excited for his sophomore.

I reckon you could spend a Friday night knocking pints out the hands of randomly selected fat blokes and get bars better than Discarda's shouted at you.

hahaha, brilliant.

I don't even know how to respond to even the idea that someone could rate Discarda above guys like Chipmunk and Double S who are just so blatantly levels and leagues above him. It's sort of like hearing someone say, "Nah, I don't really bother with tea or coffee in the morning actually, I mostly just prefer to have a warm glass of my own piss."

Just baffling.
