Purely out of interest, are you from SA?

No, Im from london but been living between here and new york. been working with a friend in new york who manages a producer from SA (Nozinja who does the shangaan stuff). It's through that connection that i get any info on things happening in SA- Nozinja is very close to spoko so i've been hearing (and digging) his tracks for a while now.

20 min mix showcasing 10 unreleased tracks by DJ Spoko.. Check it!!

Don't know if any of you guys have come across Spoko before- he's been active in the Pretoria House scene for a few years now. He hasn't had that much international exposure but he mentored and worked with Mujava helping him make (the now infamous..) Township Funk.

Spoko describes his current sound as 'bacardi house'- in my mind though.. this is proof that he owns the 'township' sound.

Be really interested to see what you guys make of this..

preeety good mix...

Sick Boy

All about pride and egos
there is no chance in hell that this will not be fucking sick.

This is sick. Loving the eski/early ruff sqwad accordian sounding synth. Got a kind of soca vibe to it too. Can you call this kind of shit kwaito though? It sounds a lot different from what I'd usually call kwaito.

anyone come across this one? really strange one, love the tune - but apparently the song was really controversial in south africa... the lyrics supposedly go across the line with misogyny - and the guy was imprisoned for child abuse

yeah big tune, it's in this thread about 3 times i think.. dunno about misogyny but a 'sister bettina' is that girl in the club that's been with all the boyz, has a drink and won't take no for an answer etc...

great track muser - never ceases to amaze me how much more honest and appealing all this stuff feels to me than most of what I'm hearing from the UK at the moment.
