I wasn't being facetious.

One problem you have eschewing knowledge institutions is that all these instinctive thought and reactions might become bound to the realm of the banal. You need something to build on so you can go from there instead of starting from scratch with each idea.

Climbing transcendental heíghts on foot, this is the quixotic enterprise of Lukaism.

I wasn't being facetious.

The facetious and the serious runs parallel to our authentic and sincere conversation. Very similar but not the same

Sometimes I feel guilty or frustrated when I'm taking the piss and it gets taken literally. like padraig just now. Sometimes it's cultural sometimes not. But there's also bits of truth in what I was saying, and his response can lead somewhere interesting. and how can people know where one starts and the other begins when im not even sure myself!

To be fair, I wrote this in an academic reference for you, when I was trying to make a virtue of the fact you had no A-Levels. And then you got offended by it!

Dissensus to Craner

It sounded better in the context of the whole reference, in which I built up a picture of an internationally significant poet and audio-visual artist with a reputation known, understood and admired by a select but influential cabal of intellectual auteurs and change agents.

If anyone else wants a reference, my rates are cheap and I'll get you on any academic or professional course in the country.

It's sometimes fun flaunting stupidity and trying to carve stuff up til you can feel the epistemistic groundlessness, but it goes too far doesn't it, when you're just adrift and thrashing about, boring strangers on the internet. Padraig and droid see themselves as guardians here, they know this kind of stuff in big groups of men leads to edge-lordism, their biggest fear is losing dissensus to the alt right. it keeps them up at night. They even have a whatsapp group about it, Dads Whatsapp

What I appreciate most about the anti-intellectual nature of dissensus which Luka has alluded to is the way in which it provides a space to discuss our topics of interest free from the infection of the sneering, conceited attitude which the aforementioned intellectuals over on twitter seem dependent on in order to leverage their personal brands for maximum effect in terms of showing off, attracting more followers, and (ultimately) selling more books.

Correct me if I am wrong but I feel this is one of the reasons why Third rubbed so many people up the wrong way on here - he was using the convoluted language of these types (critical theory) in a space where there is no advantage to be gained from it's deployment.

It's just way more engaging and inviting. Even the mystical rambling and exegetical indulgence. Even though I don't believe it or that it's not transformative in any way, it's still way more exciting than going through that map of references.

I'm not against convoluted language in general. I like learning new words and ways to put sentences together. But the more lacanian speak i find just like wading through mud.

lol you don't have the shared history, or (I'm pretty sure) the mad inspiration to pull off luka banter

in a much less serious, unofficial way, there's some truth in it, though the lines aren't as sharply drawn as that

it's more like fundamentally different perspectives (different gods isn't a bad metaphor) that coalesce around certain touchstones

psychedelics, jungle, trying to understand the Now, etc

I can't speak for everyone but I'm pretty confident it was the rampant/petulant antagonism (no offense if you read that buddy, you know it's true)

it's not like there's anyone imposing critical theory on people, and there hasn't been since I've been here (I showed up after the k-punk etc exodus)

also, theory has its uses. sure, it's easy to get lost in abstruse neologisms etc, but theory is just a tool for understanding things.

what I hate is the idea that not knowing things - being ignorant - is something to celebrate

and naive inquiry is every bit as studied in its own way, make no mistake, it's just a different kind of studied
