Don't know what Kevin Saunderson thought of 'ardkore though. The standard opinion seems to be that the original Detroit guys hated it and saw it as a bastardisation of real techno, Derrick May being the most quoted example. (im thinking of Simon Reynolds here)

What I'd like to know is: What other Detroit techno records/producers gave a nod to 'ardkore? I'm sure there must be some.

well as i said he did the kms compilation
' journey thru hardcore' for us audiences, so he couldn't have hated it that much.
also model 500 did some hardcore ish tracks.
early ur is pretty hardcoreish too

Cheers. Just thought I'd ask because i'm too young to have been around at the time, and the received wisdom seems to be that the Detroit producers thought British hardcore was awful. Always seemed a bit suspect to me.

Jeff Mills came from an industrial background, so his early sound was pretty "hardcore", though I don't know if it relates to UK hardcore specifically. It's got those big, buzzy synths anyway.

Punisher's a good tune. I thought Jeff Mills was from more of a hip hop background, didn't he used to be the Wizard years back before all this techno shenanigans

that too. but I've read that industrial was a big influence on him, which can definitely be heard in his tunes.

It's a little hard to tell with the youtube audio compression but if you listen to a higher quality version it's pretty apparent (at least to my ears) that he nicks the open part of the Solaar bassline at 3:55

Think a lot of people just sampled it out of this one.

Ha, yeah think you've got it. If not, it's the same approach - sample a full track, but then muffle it right down so it's almost entirely the bass note coming through. Quite different sound from the reese bass idea - a synth with two oscillators, one tuned sharp of the note, the other flat.

Dont know if he was a pure hip hop dj but his stlye was oure hip hop. Lots of cuts, scratches and the occasional spin backs, Ive heard a couple of mixes featuring a lot of hip (hop) house and the Cookie Crew : )

whats the true meaning of bubblers as in uk bubblers and bubbling - reggae slang that seems to be very uk, does it basically mean having a nice time feeling a bit caned?

I think so, but then people 'bubble on the version' and girls bubble like soup in a pot (though that's a JA tune, obv). Could it be to do with having a laugh? As in jovial party tunes, not serious ones?
